Confirmed from Greenway Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Greenway Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (90 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“The Greenway trail is well maintained and easily accessible for walking or biking.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“The beautiful setting and landscaping prompted me to write a review which I rarely do due to time constraints.”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“Keep in mind that most of it is a paved, easy trail.”

We took the Greenway Trail to Kennedy Loop with few extras trails totalling over 4 miles. The first part is paved and has a lot of people and dogs on it. There is a picnic area and also play park for kids next door.

Great park, we’ll maintained with paved paths. There are some less traveled gravel paths to get out of the sun and under the shade of trees. Easily bike, run or walk over 5 miles almost without using the same paths. Plenty of flat areas, benches, picnic tables and trees to relax at.

Beautiful trails for walking, light hiking or biking. Close to town and plenty of points to get on and off. You can park at the rec center or even at Lowes home improvement and get right on.

★★★★★ — Bradley , Mar 2025

I teach city planning courses at a university and I learned about this greenway through the Friends of the Blue Ridge conservation organization which helps enhance communities throughout the Blue Ridge mountains. I was positively impressed with the design, quality and cleanliness of this greenway system.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
