Confirmed from Hartford View trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Hartford View trail
Make sure you take a picture of the trail map and watch for the markers.
I took the White trail from inside Hubbard Park seeking the East Peak so as to arrive at Castle Craig. White trail starts out fairly flat just a bit windy until it takes you to the covered overpass over the highway. Once on the other side it begins a gradual slope upward that continues to add elevation as you go.
So today I decided to hike the Hartford View Trail I went all the way down to camp sloper and then I decided to do a loop once I got back there it is more of a difficult hike once you get in the back due to the fact that there is an up steep climb.
Trail conditions & character
“Once on the other side it begins a gradual slope upward that continues to add elevation as you go.”
“I was out there for about 6 hours exploring the entire area and did an entire Loop is definitely a muddy Trail because of all the snow melting.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
