Confirmed from Metacomet Trail at East Peak's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Metacomet Trail at East Peak

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (27 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“I hiked 9 miles today and saw this beautiful deer in an open field.”

Very nice hike. Great views. Can get up to the castle and have good cliff side views. Grew views of the lake and island below. Hike can be a bit rocky. Not too tiring or difficult of a trail.

★★★★★ — W , Oct 2020

Overall nice trail. Plan the parking there no parking lot but can park along the side. There is spot if you like to sit and eat. Not that crowded, plenty of shades. Beautiful view top of the climb.

★★★★☆ — Romesh , May 2020

A lot of trail options, the castle is a cool. The only thing we didn’t appreciate was the amount of glass on some trails, assuming it’s from the amount of traffic this place gets. Seems like a lot of tourist come to visit.

★★★★☆ — Jm , Oct 2022

Anyone looking for a challenging hike or trail run should visit the Metacomet up to Castle Craig/East Peak. The views from the top are spectacular, and include Sleeping Giant to the south. The terrain ranges from dirt logging roads to rocky climbs.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 11 mentions

“This part of the Metacomet Trail (part of the New England Trail) has some of the steepest trails and best views in the state.”

“None of the trails are technical so kids and pets should do fine.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work

  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
