Confirmed from Harvey Manning Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

A very relaxing afternoon hike. No worries of getting lost as it is in the middle of everything but it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. Many trails to roam around on that can easily take you for ten miles or more, of you like...

★★★★★ — Kurt , Jun 2019

Wonderful hiking place made in honor of a great mountaineer! If you can get away from the roar of the I-90, it’s a very serene and spiritual place. Highly recommend, though the parking lot is not open in winter or so I found.

★★★★★ — Jared , Feb 2019

Beautiful place on a snow filled sunny day. Great place for the dog to run, and hardly anyone else there.

★★★★★ — Maryann , Dec 2022

Hiked here for the first time couple months ago but forgot to review. The trails were muddy then but now they should be clearing up with the constant sun we are getting. Great hike around cougar mountain found geocaches as well on our hike, not much elevation change except one hill but then it flattens out.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
