Confirmed from Neversink Gorge Trails' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Neversink Gorge Trails

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (291 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 14 mentions

“We followed the quickest route to the river and back and got a few hundred awesome photos from the experience, which speaks volumes about how beautiful this trail is.”

🪧 well-marked 8 mentions

“The trail is easy to follow, it has some elevation gain and it will take about 11 miles to reach High Falls and back (included the two loops of Mullet and Denton)”

This was my first time here, and I traveled the Mullet Brook Falls trail, following the instructions on the trail sign board at the entrance. The instructions are easy to follow, I took a picture of them to use along the way, but the trails are very clearly marked, so that was great.

Trail is mostly shaded, which is why I chose this trail today when it’s around 88 degrees outside. Few muddy spots with rocks to go over them. The mist from the waterfall was amazing - nice cool and refreshing. I ran most of the trail so avoided a lot of the bugs along the way. Not too crowded.

The Neversink Unique Area has a lot to offer, including waterfalls, rivers, and trails. Be sure to check out the available maps in advance, as the trails can be somewhat confusing if you're trying to figure them out in any sort of impromptu fashion.

★★★★★ — Jason , Nov 2020

This natural area is beautiful at any time of the year but Mullet Falls by winter is just lovely! There are 3 falls in the area, Denton, Mullet and High Falls. Mullet (red to yellow) and Denton (yellow trail) are in proximity to one another, about 3 miles round trip.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says

  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
