Confirmed from He Mni Can/ Barn Bluff Trail Head's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“Absolutely beautiful scenery, two separate lookouts at the top of the hill.”

Great hike! The trails are pretty heavily used but the views are spectacular! The hiking trail loops range in length from 1.5 to 3 miles, round trip. The hike is not tremendously strenuous but you do need to be able to deal easily with roots, some rocks, and dozens of steps.

24,589 days on this earth with countless trips to and through Red Wing, MN, and I'd never hiked the fabulous He Mni Can/Barn Bluff Trail to the top with panoramic views of the city and Mississippi River. So glad I did. The changing sumac were whispering that autumn is just around the corner.

Barn Bluff is worth the climb. The views are incredible and the trails vary depending on exercise levels. I loved seeing Red Wing from up high as we climbed. Since it was early spring, it was easy to peek through the trees and see all over town. From the top we could see the river and beyond into Wisconsin.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
