My first time hiking at Henry. W Coe State Park.( January/3/2021). My hike started from head quarter to China Hole Creek. It is 11 miles out and back, 1,717 feet of elevation gain. It starts with downhill all the way and obviously uphill all the way back. it’s mostly narrow trails which make it unique and fun.
Henry Coe State Park is an excellent destination for day hikes or overnight camping. It offers over 250 miles of trails and old ranch roads suitable for all seasons. Hikers can choose from various routes, from easy 1.
Gorgeous, wide, open spaces for as far as you can see. Very clean bathrooms along the trails. Be careful with the trail you decide to follow though, pay special attention since they are so narrow. Good number of parking spaces. We made some time to speak with one of the ranchers, he was very nice.
Great park with low traffic. Lots of panoramic views and sources of water. In early Dec some creeks were hardly passable. Blue Ridge offers great solitude and great views but it's hard to get to. Long steep climbs that get brutal.
