Confirmed from Heritage Community Park and Natural Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Vast expanse of forest & meadow with a creek, picnic shelters & trails for hiking or biking.
What runners say about Heritage Community Park and Natural Area
“It's not the place to go if you want basketball courts or playgrounds, but the walking trails are beautiful and well maintained, great for reflection and spending time in nature.”

“Other than that, it's a nice place, easy to get to, calm and quiet, and I'm happy to have it nearby”
This is a great local park close to downtown Blacksburg with 2 parking areas. One can be reached off of Glade Rd and the other larger lot is on Meadowbrook Dr (where you can hike and connect into the Poverty Creek Trail system that leads to Pandapas Pond via the Gateway Trail).
Beautiful park by Virginia Tech that is a peaceful break from the town-hustle. Highly recommend taking a sunset walk and visiting the barns and silos. Also a good place to walk, relax, or have a picnic. Do make a visit, you won't regret it.
One of the most beautiful trails, with a beautiful view of the Appalachians and connected to the north end of Huckleberry. Highly recommended for bikers
This is such a nice park. It's not the place to go if you want basketball courts or playgrounds, but the walking trails are beautiful and well maintained, great for reflection and spending time in nature. I love to come here after dinner to walk and listen to an audiobook.

“A few people didn't clean up after their dogs and someone decided to do donuts in the parking area (which had just been re-graveled) so be careful pulling in and parking.”
“The atmosphere is bright and clean trails a long the trail are some bird houses you can view and benches to rest not very hard on your feet and no steep hills.”
“There are miles of paved walkways and grassy trails with interesting things to see like ponds, streams, old barns and silos.”

Plan your run at Heritage Community Park and Natural Area
The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
