Confirmed from Hickory Grove Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Hickory Grove Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (26 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

It's a really nice trail. It's super long and streches deep into the woods of Burr Oak, and connects to many different biomes and areas. Just traveling along it, you can see creeks, limestone bluffs, ponds, prairies, and of course, forests.

★★★★★ — Owen , Dec 2022

I love Burr Oaks, and walk the trails all the time, but today was my first trip on Hickory Grove. It didn't bother me any, but this trail is not a loop. It's listed as 2.3mi, but it opens up down by the Bethany Falls trail head.

★★★★☆ — Judy , Aug 2019

We've been coming to Bur Oaks for over 20 years and it's as enjoyable now as it was then. For me personally, Bur Oaks is a place of quiet respite as well as an opportunity to hike and get the most out of the outdoors while maintaining my health. We're so grateful that this is available - right here in Blue Springs.

★★★★★ — Cathy , Jul 2025

Lovely walk through the woods. Mostly gravel trails, a little elevation gain, and great views, to include some deer. Not heavily populated this evening, can't say if it's always that way.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
