Confirmed from Hickory Trails Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Hickory Trails Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (103 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Great views and the trails are freakin beautiful!”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 6 mentions

“Its a chestnut tree preserve so there is no playground equipment which means its nice and quiet.”

Small park, mostly hill. Trail goes up from parking lot, around top of hill and then down into wooded marshy area behind hill. Nice green area. The trail used to be clearly marked by gravel, but more recently grass allowed to over grow paths.

I truly enjoyed running the trails at this park, some hills but no big ones.just a lack of signage takes a bit to overcome. It can be confusing your first time or two.Well.worth a trip, right near hwy 140.in Hickory Flat

Very quiet and peaceful park and trail. I the trail wasn't too long and passed by a lovely little creek teaming with wildlife. I really enjoyed my run here and will do it again soon!

★★★★☆ — Michael , Feb 2022

Always quiet for a dog walk, can't say I have run into anyone during a dozen or so visits. There is a permanent mens and ladies restrooms a few benches but thats about it.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
