Confirmed from Hiking Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Hiking Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (127 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“This a lovely trail that brings you down the small peninsula, with abundant and beautiful wildlife.”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“Family friendly lake side fun!”

Pretty neat trail! The parking is located at the boat launch. You can jump on the trail directly from the parking lot. The first 1/4th of the trail is mild and easy. A great place to spot cranes, ducks, and seagulls. Once you start getting into the rocky area it gets a lot more difficult.

This is a very rocky trail, also full of roots. Bring a good sturdy pair of shoes as you will twist your ankle very easily. When the tide is high, water gets way up and so the trail is very muddy. This trail is full of muddy rocks and fallen trees.

Out and back trailhead. Extremely uneven terrain. If you are upset about the pollution, there's a way to solve that: bring a garbage bag and pick it up. You'll feel good that you did. I've done it twice and would do it again.

Nice place to see the water. Hike is not long, water blocked us from reaching the end. Saw a large white herron. Lots of parking. Plenty of activity here because of the boat ramp and metropark trail that bikes were using.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
