Confirmed from Hole-In-The-Wall Hike Destination Reno Nevada's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Good for families, this hiking area offers trails along an aqueduct.

What runners say about Hole-In-The-Wall Hike Destination Reno Nevada

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (63 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“The scenery was stunning, the trail is simple to navigate, and the route is spacious enough for movement in both directions.”

👟 good for all levels 3 mentions

“An easy hike to reach along the aqueduct, not an exciting destination but calming hiking along the flowing water.”

I love this hike. Definitely my go-to in NW Reno. Feel free to bring your dog or Mtn bike. I will admit that the actual “hole in wall” is very anti-climatic. Go for the hike.

Perfect trail for hiking with your dog if your dog is friendly! Virtually everyone with a dog (like 50% of people on the trail) will go without leash, so if yours is aggressive at all, please do not bring them.

★★★★★ — Rhett , Jun 2020

The hike was fantastic. Very doable for all ages. The views were amazing, the trail is easy to traverse, and the path is wide enough for travel in both directions. I highly recommend this trail, just bring your sunscreen, as there is very little cover from the sun.

★★★★★ — Lane , Jun 2018

Trail head has moved due to new house being built and access is now fenced off. The views from the area are great and the river flows near by as well. The area has some steeper areas so be prepared for that. And shade is at a premium, so bring sunscreen or wear protective clothing. Definately worth a visit though.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Hole-In-The-Wall Hike Destination Reno Nevada

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
