Confirmed from House Mountain State Natural Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

🪧 well-marked 4 mentions

“The trails are well marked and easy to follow.”

Light rain. April 6. Met no other hikers on the trail. Hiked up by West Overlook trail, then reached East overlook by Crest trail, got down by Mountain trail. Saw many spring flowers and new tree shoots. Got a terrific view on many overlooks.

This is surely not a beginner hike. That said a beginner can push through it and walk away a tad sore but feeling like the view was worth it. There is a lot to look at along the way and even some small water streaming through to cross over. There are bathrooms and a few picnic tables at the bottom.

My spouse and I walked up to the overlook that was a short .8 mile hike and when we got to the top we wished that we had started our hike sooner because we were so energized by the fun rocks that we climbed up there and there was even more to the hike at the top! The crest is our next venture.

Steep ascend/descend, but it's only about quarter mile on either side. Nice view and plenty of signs on the loop to let you know how far you've traveled. The boy scouts left a bench on the west side of the trail that's good to grab a smoke or lunch. East side of the trail has better panoramas.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 29 mentions

“However, it was only about a half mile, after that the terrain is less treacherous, and is a beautiful hike.”
