Confirmed from Jim Barnett Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Sizable area featuring a fitness trail, disc golf course & playground, plus indoor & outdoor pools.
What runners say about Jim Barnett Park
“Well maintained, nice park within the neighborhood with paved walking trails for morning, afternoon or evening walk.”
What a lovely park! The bigger loop is about half a mile while the smaller loop is a quarter of a mile, but slightly more challenging because of the zig zag on the hill. This park has multiple free gym equipment among the trail, benches, and pavilions.
A really nice park. There is plenty of open space, picnic tables, a mini-golf course, a pool, disk golf, and plenty of play areas for children. It also has a nice bike trail that is well marked. The rest rooms could use a make over but all in all this is a Frederick County treasure.
20230520 Discovered that this park has a disc golf area in the woods, a large circular trail with fitness station. All paved. Very dogfriendly and people here are very nice. Great spacious park with nice paved trails. Very clean. The Korean, MIA, and POW memorials are also there. The memorials are worth seeing.
Nice park. Not so crowded even on summer Saturday. Lot of walking trails and cute dogs. Lot of sports to play!
Trail conditions & character
“It has a large dog and a small dog area separated to keep the dogs safe .”
“Well maintained, nice park within the neighborhood with paved walking trails for morning, afternoon or evening walk.”
“Also there were some sticks coming out of the ground like roots or something that should be looked at because that can also stick into a dog's leg and cause an injury.”
“The bigger loop is about half a mile while the smaller loop is a quarter of a mile, but slightly more challenging because of the zig zag on the hill.”
“The cement pad under the picnic table needs to be level with the ground so maybe put mulch or dirt to make it level so the dogs don't break a leg running around.”
“It is clean but sometimes the bathroom's are locked.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadrestrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
