Confirmed from Third Winchester Battlefield Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Very beautiful and peaceful place to walk my dogs. We have walked the entire 3-4 miles of trails. I love that there is a mixture of different path substrates ie paved, gravel, dirt and mowed grass. All the trails are fairly easy to walk/hike.

I walk and bike through the trails connecting Millbrook High School and Regency Lakes here a ton because it connects me to my grandmother. The trail is nice, my only complaint is that it is not great in the snowy winter or after rainy days, because it is not paved and therefore you have to wait for the snow to melt…

Hats off to the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation for preserving this hallowed ground. Instead of gas stations or strip malls, we have well maintained walking trails, interpretive signage, and beautiful views for all to enjoy.

I walk there almost every morning. I really like the peacefulness of the place. I walk early because I walk my dog, he just loves the trails, the woods, the tall grass and he runs the whole time, all 3.5 miles of it. It's a very beautiful place.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 9 mentions

“Dogs are allowed on the trails, but the owners seem very respectful by picking up after their dogs as I didn't notice any feces along the trails.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • Loop distance6 mi back to where you parked. Long enough for a real long run.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
