We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of John Holder Trail yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Nice trail, not very clearly marked though, would make a great family hike in the summer as long as you are familiar with the route.”

This is another one of the area's many relatively quick and easy (took me 1.5-2 hours) yet gorgeous trails. I came for the gorge/cliff faces (pictured), but there are also very interesting artifacts within including dry lay walls, stone foundations, old graveyards, and the chimney of a home where a triple homicide…

John Holder Trail is a great little nature trail that starts right at the lot of Hall's on the River. The walkways are mostly easy to navigate, but some bridges are in need of some decent repair. It's got a nice length of path through the forest, along with some really nice watering spots to relax at.

Trail is slightly difficult to follow. However it is gorgeous! Creek is fun to play in, but if over growth. I would recommend long sleeves and pants.

We enjoyed our hike, the trails aren't very well marked, but there is only one, so you really can't get lost.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
