Confirmed from Jones Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🏃 great for running 3 mentions

“Depending on your goals, is one of the best starting points for a long run”

🌳 shaded & cool 5 mentions

“This is a very nice rails-to-trail with lots of shade and interesting sight like activity field for DePauw and lake in Hawthorn Park.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“Popular with walkers, runners, bikes/ebikes, scooters, etc, but still shady and quiet.”

Great place for an outside run, walk, or bike. The trail goes for a while and runs behind Rose-Hulman. Trees on both sides for majority of it, which is great for shade on super hot days. I run while my kids bike, and have never had any issues.

I cannot believe I have lived here so long and just now experienced this trail. I live super south and this trail is worth the drive!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
