Confirmed from Kate's Garden's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park along the St. Joseph River showcasing a variety of flowers, paved paths, and a gazebo.
What runners say about Kate's Garden
“Sooo beautiful, didn’t know Mishawaka had so many beautiful parks!”
“Nice and quiet peaceful good place to Bird watch paint play just enjoy the breeze”
A cute little garden alongside St Joseph’s river! As the pictures show, it’s pretty but nothing overwhelming. I enjoyed looking at all the flowers as I walked the river trails. There’s a wide variety of flowers and fauna that are grown and maintained by volunteers.
Best place to start your river walks at. Leads down to the island parks and then over by the ironworks. From there take the suspension bridge across the river, go one direction and you're at Battelle park, go the other direction you end up at central park. Great river parks system up here.
Kind of small, but packed with flowers. It has a gazebo and some benches by a statue. It may not be the biggest area to walk around, but the amount of flowers make up for it. It is also connected to the Riverwalk. So you're only a few steps away from a nice view of the river.
A very scenic garden off the river. You can take the trail around the river. So beautiful. I took a toddler and she was over the moon about all the flowers, bugs, and birds. One critique from her: the giant statues are scary! 😅😜

Plan your run at Kate's Garden
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
