1. Did this on a sunny Sat in October end 2. Parking was mostly empty at 9 am 3. Stats - 16 miles with 3200 elevation gain. Moving time - 9 hours. Total time - 10 hours 4. Trail was well maintained. The waterfall crossing was not bad to cross 5. Not much snow up there to worry 6. Moderate incline all the way.
Snowshoed 2 days before Christmas on the old commonwealth trail from the Kendall Katwalk trailhead. Snow was deep but there was nice snowshoe path from other hikers that we could easily follow. There was a short narrow section that was blocked by tree branches.
Was really nice trail. Lazy switchbacks so not too difficult incline but makes it a longer hike. Took my friends and I 7 hours to go up to the two alpine lakes, have lunch and come back down. Drive was so close from Seattle. Great views from cat walk area.
This is an excellent destination hike on section J of the PCT. Only about 6.5 miles and 2700 vertical feet to the Katwalk. Well groomed trail. Large paved parking area for dozens of vehicles. Restroom facilities available. Good maps and trail signage. Excellent views the whole trail.
