Everyone told me Koko Head has breathtaking views. Yes… I can confirm because I lost my breath halfway up. 🤣 By step 500, I was negotiating with my ancestors for extra lung capacity. By step 800, every local aunty passing me was somehow moving faster than me while carrying a water bottle and having a full conversation.
The hike is a challenging as it's very steep and walking over the planks of the rail could become tricky. The last section was the hardest as it was very high incline. There are resting areas on the side of one needs to catch a breath. It's easier for little kids.
It's a giant staircase—not a hike; not a walk. Be prepared for the monotonous and strenuous climb. Once you get up there, beautiful views with the nice breeze from the Pacific, so come prepared to spend a bit of time and enjoy. Both the sunrise and sunset could be gorgeous, depending on the weather.
This was an awesome hike for my husband and I to accomplish. I will say it's not an easy hike it's moderate. Make sure that you bring water and when you get to the top, take a break you're going to need it! I ended up getting to the top without breaks during the climb but everyone's fitness level varies.
