Good parking lot & toilets are available. The challenge of the trail is to climb that 1048 uneven steep steps that made from old military railroad ties without any shades. For first time hikers, beside good physical conditions, bring along stamina, strong will & endurance. dress code depends on the day.
Koko Head District Park is a fantastic destination for both locals and visitors looking to enjoy outdoor activities. The park offers stunning panoramic views, especially from the top of the Koko Head Crater, which you can reach via the challenging but rewarding Koko Crater Stairs hike.
Parking lot open in koko head district park. Lot was open for an early sunrise morning hike at 5:30 AM. Highly recommend for sunrise! If you go on a day that it rains, there will be fog at the top. Hike takes approximately 30-40 minutes up and 25-30 minutes down. The hike is well kept as volunteers spread gravel.
This is a once in a lifetime experience! If you don't do it for the pictures, do it for the accomplishment of getting to the top! A few notes: start early before the sun, bring water, I recommend lunch at the top and of course a good pair of shoes.
