Confirmed from Lake Isabella State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Large park with meadows and forests, plus a lake-side section for apples and picnics.

What runners say about Lake Isabella State Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (243 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 7 mentions

“Beautiful open trail with plenty of branching paths through the forest and a few to the lake.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 7 mentions

“Big, wide open fields to let dogs and children run, and lovely views of the water.”

Beautiful open trail with plenty of branching paths through the forest and a few to the lake. We went 3.5 miles and could have easily done another 2 with all the different paths.

★★★★★ — Kyle , Aug 2021

Great place for a jog or dog-walk. The lake-side section has a large open field with blackberries around the perimeter and a couple of small apple orchards. Crossing the road is more of a trail-complex that's mostly shaded until it crosses a meadow before dipping back into the forest for another .5 mile of trail.

★★★★★ — Clint , Aug 2024

Beautiful place with multiple options for lengths of trails and lots to explore. Go through the tunnel or cross the street to see the other half of this beautiful park. There is access to the water via small foot trails.

★★★★★ — Kyle , Apr 2025

Nice open walk with a few small trails.. Good for dogs and people.. Saw an eagle overhead close to the waters edge. Wide open fields would be perfect for a picnic during the summer.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 13 mentions

“We enjoyed a beautiful, late morning walk with our kiddo and 3 dogs (dogs must be leashed).”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
