Confirmed from Lower Bidwell Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Family-friendly venue with barbecue and picnic facilities, a year-round stream, and a playground, plus bike and walking paths.
What runners say about Lower Bidwell Park
“Besides being beautiful and easy to access, you can cool off with your beloved 100 lb Teddy bear and just chill out.”
“Great place for a easy walk.”
Bidwell Park is a beautiful large park to visit in Chico. It offers multiple miles of trails, a year round stream, and beautiful vibrant trees in the Spring. There are paved bike paths and regular hiking trails that beach off of the main trail though the park and plenty to see.
Lower park is one of my favorite places to go in Chico. So many trails you can walk, run, bike and even ride a horse on. 2 main driving roads to take a cruise down. Beautiful scenery all year round.
I love coming here. It's beautiful it's large enough to find quiet swimming spots. You can barbecue and spend the day. There are so many trails that you always have some new adventure waiting for you every time you visit.
Great place for a easy walk. Lots of paved and dirt paths as well as easy access points to the creek.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
