Confirmed from Lower Castle Rock Natural Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Lower Castle Rock Natural Area

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (88 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 4 mentions

“Trails are well maintained but if running is your thing then some backtracking and looping is required to get more than 2 miles in.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 7 mentions

“Beautiful views, upper parts of the trail are narrow with loose rocks and is very slick on the way down.”

👟 good for all levels 3 mentions

“Easy hike, but the view is great all the way to the top of Castle Rock.”

Easy hike, but the view is great all the way to the top of Castle Rock. I did the hike through east face gully which requires class 4 scrambling. It was fun but only recommend to experienced climbers.

Was able to get a quick hike in before it got dark. The trail is easy to find the whole way up and the elevation is pretty gradual as well most of the way. Beautiful day in Wenatchee, saw only 4 others on the trail the whole hike. Round trip 2.34 miles and 751 feet elevation gain

Did not realize this trail head was so close to the house. I rode my bike up and locked it at the trail head and hiked the first smaller loop. Fun hike, easy enough, kid friendly and no bikers. Nice little 1.5hrs hike with beautiful views of Wenatchee.

Awesome trail, love to hike all times of the year. Can be steep, and slippery when the ground is really dry. The view at the top is worth it.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
