Confirmed from Loyalsock Trailhead Dutchman Falls' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Loyalsock Trailhead Dutchman Falls

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (76 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“I was fortunate to hike there with a local hike leader, he took us to the waterfall and the Haystacks and showed us Brook Kedron after that, beautiful hike!”

🪧 well-marked 3 mentions

“Well marked trails leading to the falls and to other areas along the river.”

Fun hiking location. The more difficult trail can be tricky at times. The trails are well marked so getting lost would be difficult. The Dutchman falls are beautiful and located close to the parking locations. The haystacks are a decent walk away.

You used to pull off the side of the road to get back to Dutchman falls and the haystacks. Now you turn off, and go to a parking lot, with a bathroom, trail info sign, etc. This is much better. There are two trail options back to the haystacks.

★★★★★ — William , Jul 2019

It was quite the trail in getting to the waterfall. It was rocky and steep but, it does get flatter towards the end. On the way back we took a different route which was uphill but a little easier, overall it was challenging.

★★★★★ — Rick , May 2023

East end parking for thru hiking the Loyalsock trail (59.2 miles). This is a great section of the trail also, Sones Pond, the Haystacks and Dutchman falls. Please practice LNT ( LEAVE NO TRACE ) If everyone does their share, places like this will remain beautiful and unspoiled.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
