We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Mammoth Rock yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Popular spot for hiking with challenging sections and scenic views.
What runners say about Mammoth Rock
“Used to hike much more and I remembered how beautiful it was, however the rock itself needs serious attention.”
Great hike for children and middle ages. If you have trouble with your knees though, you might want to brace them. Used to hike much more and I remembered how beautiful it was, however the rock itself needs serious attention. There is now more graffiti on the mammoth than in some ghettos.
Challenging hike with nice views all the way to the platform by the “trunk”. Be ready to do a little rock climbing but nothing too crazy. The trail down could be a little better marked but if you go during daylight hours you should be fine. Signal is decent. I was able to use my gps when I lost my way for a moment.
Love this trail, always a great time. I understand that it is considered difficult but I led a group with two beginners who made it all the way. There's enough places to stop for a breather and the other hikers are always very friendly. The whole scenery going up is gorgeous but at the top is truly a sight to see.
This was a tough hike! We brought our kids with us and they loved it! It was challenging in some spots and totally worth it in the end! Bring water with you in this hike, you won't regret it!
