Confirmed from Mammoth Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Amazing trail with beautiful views.”

On the Ron Coleman Trail via Transmountain Highway. I arrived a little later than I should have if I wanted to get at least to Mammoth Rock. I really wanted to get to the top of South Franklin Mountain, next time. Beautiful views nonetheless. Por el sendero de Ron Coleman a través de la carretera Transmountain.

Amazing trail with beautiful views. Kids loved it. We got to see some deer near the trails as well 😄

One of the best hiking spots in El Paso. If you take the route I took (got lost) prepare for a bit of rock climbing. Definitely worth it though once you get up.

★★★★★ — Lorenzo , May 2024

Really cool trail! The path gets slightly rocky about half a mile in, my 7 year old struggled a little, but not much. He was definitely able to manage on his own. I will be taking him back for sure. We had so much fun! We did not finish the trail though.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“People usually park a car at the start and the end then drive back because 8 miles is hard and its harder coming back then going up.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • Distance100 mi as reported — check whether that is one way or a round trip before you commit. Long enough for a real long run.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
