Confirmed from Matson Hill Road Open Space's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

This relatively new open space combines a peaceful setting with a perspective on Glastonbury's history of water-powered manufacturing in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The textile industry was once a major part of the economy throughout Connecticut and much of New England. The ruins of the old mill are picturesque.

Nice little open space. You can walk around the grounds, the old factory, and around the adjacent stream. Very pretty.

★★★★☆ — Justin , Jul 2022

Great place to play Frisbee or check out some Ruins of the past. There was handicap parking I would suggest the walking trail it was pretty short and had some really steep parts. Great place to throw down a blanket and have a picnic.

★★★★☆ — Dan , May 2026

Beautiful area. The cotton hollow trails down the road are beautiful as well. Moderate hike.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
