Confirmed from McNaughton Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about McNaughton Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (220 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“Gorgeous rolling hills, mixed woods and open fields, incredibly challenging but fun disc golf course, tons of wildlife and decent parking options.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“It is quiet and has very little traffic coming in and out.”

Great walking experience for you and your dog. There are open fields as well as wooded trails. It is quiet and has very little traffic coming in and out. Be advised that if you are taking your dog, this is a deer haven. We have been able to get with 100 feet, and they stare at you.

Fun fact: I’ve been here a dozen times to play disc golf with my friend Jacob and had no idea it was more than that. So, when my girlfriend suggested we go for a hike here on a nice February day, I was surprised it had trails to hike. We strapped on our hiking shoes and hit the trails.

I love coming here and enjoying the nature trails that are spread all throughout McNaughton! Every trail is truly beautiful and I love venturing out to new trails whenever I can! It's so nice having a place in Pekin that has wild life, hiking, and it's taken care of! Also you can have bonfires in the designated areas!

McNaughton Park is one of my favorite parks. We've been going since I was little. The trails are easy to traverse and maintained. There is a huge disc golf course. They have some covered pavilions and picnic tables. Plenty of parking. Lots to explore with many hiking trails. Very fun place to sled in the winter!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at McNaughton Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
