Confirmed from Milan Wildlife Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Natural surfaceScenic

Tranquil preserve with trails, plus a shallow river, for hiking, fishing and swimming.

What runners say about Milan Wildlife Area

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (107 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

“Very gorgeous and able to walk down to creek bed skip rocks or when its warm out dip your toes in the water.”

Love this place, but I have some issues with it. I'm a hunter, it is now hunting season for squirrel, rabbit and bow season for deer. It is clearly posted that its hunting land, so.....what I DONT EXPECT TO SEE is as follows..... 1. People taking their kids for a walk (save that for off season) 2. People bike riding 3.

Hiked here for some deer scouting also did some fishing. The place is absolutely beautiful! No there are not actually trails seeing as this is not a family recreational area it is a public hunting fishing and trapping area!

Very beautiful walk along the West Branch. Water was clear, cool & lots of little fish everywhere. Update: went out today (June 3rd, 2026). It was really cool walking the main river branch and the creek branch. The water temp difference was incredibly crazy.

For those reviewers who comment(ed) that there aren't trails or good access, no picnic tables, and that there are hunters: IT'S NOT A PARK; IT'S A DESIGNATED HUNTING AREA. Educate yourself and your children and understand the differences and the risks, ESPECIALLY during hunting season.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
