Confirmed from Minuteman Bike Path's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Minuteman Bike Path

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (30 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“Pros:It's a beautiful bike path Cons: lots of pedestrians on the bike path”

Former train tracks, now paved path for bikers, runners, and walkers. Cars are never allowed. Runs through Arlington, Lexington, and Bedford. Well maintained including snow plowing in the winter. Very popular on the weekends in the summer. One of the highlights of the area, I’ve been running here for years.

★★★★★ — Jeff , Oct 2023

10 miles of very flat, beautiful biking. The closer to Bedford you get, the more fresh air and nature to enjoy. For a longer ride, hop over to fresh pond from Alewife and connect to the greenway.

★★★★★ — J , Sep 2022

Long and exhausting but one of the best bike paths i’ve ever ridden. It’s 10 miles each way from alewife station to bedford, ending at The Bikeway Source. There is an extension beyond that if you want to go but I would rest on the benches in Bedford before making the return trip.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
