Confirmed from Mission Peak Regional Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Mission Peak Regional Preserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (4,513 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 7 mentions

“The complete hike was very scenic with a very pretty view of the whole bay area, a lot of green and a lot of cows!”

🌳 shaded & cool 7 mentions

“Nice elevation gain hike, not much shade better to start early morning and rainy weather.”

A very nice trail!! Great hill, beautiful sunset, populated with animals every where. It takes half day to finish the full trail. Parking is not easy, unless you come here early. Remember to bring the water bottle to secure your body. There is limited tree here, get a hat for minimum cover.

One of the best places to hike in the bay. It’s the most difficult as well compared to the other hikes nearby. The steep mountain trail especially in the last 1 mile challenges you a lot. But breaking a sweat is worth it as the views you get from this peak is the best.

We started the climb and a couple of girls (we think from high school) were asking if we wanted to buy lemonade in aid of poor students in the community. We decided to first go for the hike and get a drink on the way down. The climb itself was actually not easy.

We went for a weekend hike. The day before it rained a bit a there causing a lot of mud. Around 1.5 miles of road was covered in dirt making the road slippery. However that did not deter the hike since it was expected. The last mile is particularly difficult since there is quite a lot of elevation gain.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
