Confirmed from Mohonk Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Nice small park, clean and well maintained. There are some interesting trails over there, especially one that leads to the Sky Top Tower and goes through the huge crack in the cliff. To reach the tower you have to climb up the set of wooden ladders in very tight space.

The land is stunning and there are trails catering to a variety of interests. However, this isn't a state park. It is a non profit calling itself a "nature preserve". I'm glad the land is kept undeveloped, however. They nickel and dime you. To go to the visitors center is free but parking is limited.

The Mohonk Reserve is the largest private nature reserve in New York's Shawangank Range. The reserve inspires people to take care of nature and explore it. Mohonk Preserve was designated a National Historic Landmark.

We visited Mohonk Preserve and it was absolutely incredible. There are two ways to enter: through Mohonk Mountain House ($35) or through Mohonk Preserve ($15 for hikers, $20 for bikers, climbers, or horseback riders). We entered via the preserve and took the Duck Pond Trail, but our experience went far beyond that.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
