Confirmed from Monocacy National Battlefield's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Monocacy National Battlefield
Want to get out and explore the Civil War history in Frederick, MD? This is a great start to that adventure. Begin at the Visitor Center for maps, an informative museum and an oral history of the battle there. Not much to see outside at the Visitor Center, but that is the starting point.
This place is a real gem of a Civil War battlefield. Lots to see but can easily be done in a day. Great hiking trails with diverse terrain. Visitors center Is great. Nice little museum. Ranges are top notch and friendly. Their Memorial Day program is worth coming to see.
Well documented history, plenty of hiking trails from easy to moderate. There are several sections of the battlefield that can be reached with a short drive. All have hiking trails and some have views of the Monocacy River.
Great place to hike absolutely beautiful, but make sure to plan your trip when it's warm and dry. The trails are muddy and slippery after the rain takes a while to dry
