Confirmed from NTN South Trails Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Woodsy trail system for bikers and hikers, offering routes from beginner to expert.
What runners say about NTN South Trails Trailhead
“Maps posted and up to date, the trails are well marked and the pavilion is amazing!”
Best freeride mountain biking in the U.P. If you're looking for the big stuff, head to the top of Benson and then keep on trucking along the fireroad past the Benson trailhead for about 0.25-0.5 mile. You'll know when you're there.
If your up north around Marquette you definitely want/ need to go here if you love mountain biking like me. This trail head is not very hard on certain trails like grom but trails like Morgan creek get a little difficult but easily defeated.
These are some wonderful trails. Compared to the North trails, these are longer and some of the sections don't have quite the same downhills for bikers. That said, there are some amazing sections and I can't say that there was a single one that disappointed.
My favorite trails to ride! Trail levels for every ability. I was nervous my first time that I’d be too challenging for me, but not at all (although there are harder trails if you’re looking for a challenge). They also have a great kids track that my 3 year old loves to ride on her push bike.
Trail conditions & character
“Parking area has clean bathrooms and a changing room of sorts - no doors but you can see peoples feet if they are in there so you know it's occupied.”
“But watch out for all the roots!”
“Maps posted and up to date, the trails are well marked and the pavilion is amazing!”

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
