Confirmed from Oak Mountain State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Home to a petting zoo, golfing & beaches, this vast park has camping, hiking trails & fishing.
What runners say about Oak Mountain State Park
“We were impressed with how clean and well-maintained everything was, from the roads to the campsites themselves.”
“Oak Mountain is beautiful and other bikers, hikers and staff are all very friendly.”
My favorite place in Alabama! December 28th 2025...last Sunday sunset over the lake..... Ill take it! (I also added pics from my 2025 adventures) I moved to Alabama July of 2025 and Oak Mountain Park has been my go to place...
Oak mountain State Park is really a lot of fun for hiking and biking. I did not go to the beach area but I did see people filling their cars with kids and swimsuits and some kayaks on the water that I did pass. I was really impressed with the campground: I had a site that had electric, water and sewer.
An absolute must visit for people who love the outdoors. Not sure if I broke any "rules" when I went off trail getting to the bottom of Peavine Falls, but I will definitely go back a lot! I am part Cherokee and am used to the mountains of East Tennessee, so you show me any slope and I am all in.
Our first time visiting. They have an amazing 18 hole golf course, the views are fantastic, sadly I can't say the same for my golf game. Miles of trails, gorgeous scenery. Horse barns and trails, bring your own horse. A lovely hike to the Peavine waterfall.
Trail conditions & character
“Whether you’re hiking, biking, or just looking for a relaxing place to walk and take in the views, this park delivers.”
“There are so many activities to choose from; we enjoyed a hike to Peavine Falls, though the road up was quite steep.”
“Rocky around the falls so be sure that you have a good pair of hiking boots on if you go to the bottom.”
“Our spot was spacious and fairly level, with good hookups.”
“Spacious and individual bathrooms with showers, laundry facility is nice but does not offer change — you have to get it from the camp store and only available during select hours.”
“From the mammothmarch (20 mile hike), to blue grass concerts, hiking, mountain biking,drawing,picnicking/grilling with family and friends, camping, to paddleboarding on the lake.”
