Confirmed from Old Finley Road Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

I love running Old Finley Road, it's quiet, beautiful, full of history and has great trails to explore if you take a side trail. It's got grasslands and riparian areas. It connects up to Mt. Diablo too or you can take it from Danville over to Clayton on Jeremiah Trail. I'm a big fan of Old Finley.

Recommend! You park on a pullout along Finley road then walk about a half mile to the trailhead. The first couple mikes are a very gradual incline. Dog and bike friendly, this trail has a steady stream of visitors. There is a longer, loop that you can take that has more elevation gains for a more challenging hike.

★★★★★ — Karyn , Feb 2022

A truly spectacular walk, particularly in the spring when these hills are vibrant green.

★★★★★ — Paul , Apr 2024

Super peaceful and beautiful trail. There’s some shade areas but when it’s hot out- start early! Love it out here!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
