Confirmed from Orra Phelps Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Orra Phelps Nature Preserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (69 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“Beautiful, quiet walk in the woods by the stream.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“The trails are easy to follow, well marked, and not to challenging.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 6 mentions

“The Orra Phelps Nature Preserve is a great place for a peaceful walk in the woods.”

One of the best "deep woods" walks (wouldn't call it a hike) available in the Wilton/lake Moreau area. In the spring and summer you can't take a single step without a frog or bird or crazy big mushroom catching your attention.

★★★★★ — Bagelbagel , Aug 2018

The trail splits almost immediately. I prefer the walk along the creek to the left. There's a steep-ish hill going down so be careful when the ground is wet. Those leaves get slippery. The right-side trail brings you more into a sandy pine forest. Parking is ample.

★★★★★ — Sagittarian , Jun 2016

The Orra Phelps Nature Preserve was such a nice place to talk a walk during the fall with all of the trees changing colors and plenty of pretty colored leaves all about. There's a few streams going through the preserve and some bridges to get across. It was such a nice experience.

It was a great walk in the woods. Very pretty with all the streams. My dog, Willow, had a wonderful time sniffing around, especially for the chipmunks.😊

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
