Confirmed from Panther Mountain's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Panther Mountain
“1200 ft hill in Harriman State Park providing great views of hamlets west of Palisades Parkway.”
Forget about driving to were the current pin as of the time of this writing is. Drive to the equestrian center. Park before the bridge. Walk across the bridge and you will see a big building. Dont worry about trespassing. The land is government owned. Walk past the big building on the right or left side.
Waterfalls, rocks, view of NYC from the top. We did not see a single other person the whole trail. Easy parking marked at the equiestrian center. Trail entrance is hard to find- get out of you car and follow the white fence to the right, turn the corner, and there is a bench marking the entrance
Beautiful area for hiking. Especially nice if you go when it’s rained recently and the streams are in full swing.
If the day is clear enough, you can see the silouete of the sky scrapers of New York City from the top of the mountain. We did a 7 mile loop following different paths, which are clearly identified by colors. Fortunatelly, today the weather was sunny and cool.
