Confirmed from Patriots Point Nature Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Patriots Point Nature Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (35 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“There isn't anything fancy about the trail, but it's clear, well maintained, and secluded.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“At the end d is a beautiful lookout over the marsh, if you want you can go to a nice little beach if the tide is low.”

We love this little hidden gem of a trail! Love the native plant educational plaques placed throughout the trail and the lookouts to rest, if you have little ones with you! Hog Island at low tide is lowcountry exploring at one of it's finest!

Don't listen to the negative reviews, this trail was great! I saw lots of wild life (hawks, marsh rabbits, frogs, turtles, skinks to name a few) and cool flora. The honeysuckles were in bloom and smelled amazing! There isn't anything fancy about the trail, but it's clear, well maintained, and secluded.

I was reminded of my grandfather's tales of vet Nam. Except the Vietcong was mosquitoes. No matter how much deet and bug spray we used, they just kept coming at us. During walk at some point my best friend got hit square in the forehead. We had to leave him as the enemy engulfed his still writhing form.

A nice, short trail to walk or run. There are a couple of observation decks along the route, but be sure to go all the way to the end to the Hog Island Observation Deck. At low tide, you can even walk out to the shoreline.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
