Confirmed from Pennypacker Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Pennypacker Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (282 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 4 mentions

“Multiple trails and very clean, pleasant quiet walk in nature”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“Beautiful park - finally found some fall foilage that was photo worthy.”

Bring bear bells to warn local teenagers who are making out on the upper trails that you're in the area. If you encounter a couple, talk firmly in a loud voice and slowly back away. Do not feed the teenagers.

We hiked the south side of the park from the Hopkins Pond parking area, to King's Highway, and back around again. It's a cool little area with interesting plants, birds, and marshes/fields. The trail is well defined, flat, and with the exception of two areas dry. Be careful if you want to wander off the trail though.

Great park for walking or riding trails, or even a picnic, kid friendly (we took a 3 yo and 6 yo) as well on terms of terrain and scenery. We went for the dinosaur site however and that mini exhibit was not along any visible walking path.

It's an extraordinary park to go for a walk pr a run. My kids had a Cross Country race at this park.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Pennypacker Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
  • Phone+1 856-216-2117
