Confirmed from Piedra Lisa Canyon Loop Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Rocky area featuring multiple trails of varying difficulty levels.
What runners say about Piedra Lisa Canyon Loop Trail
“Really beautiful spot, shade depending on what side you're on and time of day, different levels of difficulty trails”
“One of my favorite hiking spots by the Sandias which includes Easy to Hard trails nearby for all ages and levels.”
One of my favorite hiking spots by the Sandias which includes Easy to Hard trails nearby for all ages and levels. Rock-climbing options as well. Plenty of mini caves, wildlife and views to spend a few hours exploring.
This was a great hike. The trail climbs for 2.6 miles from the trailhead. It meets up with the Sandia crest trail and a few others. Beautiful views of the valley and the mountains. It is known for the granite face of Sandia Man. See photo. Pinyon pines, prickly pear and junipers are the primary species.
Even though I don’t live close to this trail anymore it’s still one of my favorites. Usually pretty easy to find parking and if you have kids the trails lead to the park. Also a great place if you’re a photographer like me to go take pictures.
Great morning hike, amazing view of the city. Marking is poor and easy to miss the trail.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run

- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
