Confirmed from Embudito Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Embudito Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (784 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 13 mentions

“The other side has great views of the city, mainly cactus, wildflowers, exposed switchbacks, and full sun unless starting early.”

🌳 shaded & cool 5 mentions

“First two miles are no shade but the rest is beautiful.”

This may be the most beautiful spot I've found in Albuquerque so far! I only went about a mile into the trail. For the first mile the trail is a wide dirt path with other trails that branch off. After that it turns into a boulder canyon.

My favorite trail to South peak. First two miles are no shade but the rest is beautiful. Almost 12 miles round trip. And the most Elevation change out if all the trails if you are looking for a challenge. I made my new record on this day 4 hours and 1 minute.

Great loop hike. It gets a little steep on the way up if you go through the rocky canyon. Lots of large rocks to navigate. Hiked in colder weather of January and there was a lot of ice and some snow at the top. The ice was only bad in some parts but it’s fun as long as you have good shoes.

★★★★★ — Meghan , Jan 2023

Really lovely trail. I turned around after about 3.5 miles and ascending about 2k feet. It keeps going for a while but I started around 2pm and wanted to make sure I got back before sunset.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
