Confirmed from Pleasant Valley Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Sprawling outdoor area boasting miles of trails for hiking, walking and mountain-biking. Peaceful.
What runners say about Pleasant Valley Park
“Kept clean, nice and quiet once you head onto the trails.”
“Very peaceful, beautiful, and well maintained.”
“Also I've never seen too many people here at one time so you can usually get some good peace and quiet in the forest!”
I love coming to this park, it has several trails that wind through the forest. Great if you want to take a walk in nature. Also I've never seen too many people here at one time so you can usually get some good peace and quiet in the forest!
I really enjoyed my first visit to Pleasant Valley Park. Great work by all the people who maintain it. Location: this park is worth the drive from Pittsburgh's eastern suburbs, at least those between the rivers. The park is located just south of downtown Murrysville. Parking: there are maybe 25 spots in the gravel lot.
I absolutely loved the Hanks trail. Hanks trail is the only loop trail in the park. Best marked trail I have been on and I have been on hundreds of trails. Very quite after you walk away from the parking lot, the traffic noise disappears. A lot of people were bringing in their bikes as I was leaving.
I've been to this park a couple of times but if you want to hike I suggest you go to Duff Park instead. The trails at Pleasant valley park are mostly used by mountain bikers.
Trail conditions & character
“Views: the vistas up and down the pipeline rights of way were kinda interesting.”
“Very quite after you walk away from the parking lot, the traffic noise disappears.”
“The times I've been I had to always keep an eye on behind me and in front of me for bikers (I also hike with my dog) and I feel like no one ends up enjoying the time there.”
“Also I've never seen too many people here at one time so you can usually get some good peace and quiet in the forest!”
“Trail slopes: Hank's and Cheeky both had lots of ups and downs but nothing was unnecessarily steep.”
“It can be a bit muddy on the trails after wet weather and people ride mountain bikes on them so that seems to increase the muddiness.”
“Also connected to Duff Park if you follow the unmarked but legit connector trail Also has one portajohn.”
“Because the trails are named by segments, it can be a little challenging to figure out an ideal loop if it's your first time there.”
“Parking: there are maybe 25 spots in the gravel lot.”
Plan your run at Pleasant Valley Park
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
