Confirmed from Powder Canyon's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
This expansive natural area features chaparral hills & trails for hiking & horseback riding.

Mina say this is the best trail around Orange County so we just had to hike it when we passed the area. It’s true—this really is one of the best suburban trails in southern CA. Thanks Mina for posting so much enthusiasm for this trail. Glad I finally made it here!
Powder canyon is a beautiful park that has great countryside vibes in the canyons and stunning views along the hilltops. It offers a great mix of well-maintained fire roads and narrower single track trails. When we were out there we saw hikers, trail runners, horseback riders and mountain bikers.
🏞As you continue along the valley road, 🌲☘️💐there are many trees and wild grasses. 🌿So the air is cool. 🌞It is a good place to take a walk even when it is hot.😮💨 🎶🏃♀️🚶♂️Health is something I create, not something others create.🎋👍
Powder Canyon is absolutely beautiful in the springtime. There are rabbits, ground squirrels, mule deer and coyotes. Please please please keep a safe distance from all animals (no matter how cute) and do not feed them.
Trail conditions & character
“It can get busy on weekends so if you don't find street parking, you will have to park at the trailhead which is a dirt road and not really great for sedans but doable.”

“Don't forget to bring a hat, there's no shade at all, only at the end of the hike about 1/2 mile.”
“The loop I usually take takes about 45–55 minutes and I’d rate the difficulty around 2 out of 5—manageable, but still a great workout.”
“Completed over 7-mile loop starting from Black Walnut Trailhead.”
“It offers a great mix of well-maintained fire roads and narrower single track trails.”
“You can also hike down to the park where there's nicely kept bathrooms, drinking fountains, shaded pic nic tables, and barbeques.”
