Confirmed from Prospect Mountain Hiking Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Challenging hike path to a summit overlook featuring lake, mountain and forest views, along with picnic tables.
What runners say about Prospect Mountain Hiking Trail
“It is quite a hike if you just think you will take a little hike but not something hard if you have water, good foot wear and desire to see beautiful views.”
Good intermediate trail. 2.5 mile hike to the summit if you start at the trail head. Alternatively you could start midway or drive to the top if you don't want the hike. The hike itself has some relatively steep rocky sections. The view of lake George from the summit is worth the hike. You park at the trail head.
‘twas not a challenging trail since I hast climbed higher peaks. And yet was quite bussin with plenty of lookout points and a beautiful view. If thou look a mite north west towards the peak thou see Mount Marcy the highest of the Adirondack peaks. To the East thou see Vermont.
A great, challenging day hike. You start off on the footbridge over the Northway, quite a thrill. From there it's straight up, but there's enough neat features and scenery on the way up to make it more than just a trudge up to the summit.
Is not a difficult hike, is very doable at your own pace and knowing where to step. It's a mountain therefore the hike is all UP, about halfway up you'll hit the steepest part of it but it's the best part! Trail is pretty obvious. Follow the RED disc on the trees.

“You'll see other trails being walked right next to the red marks because is less rocky.”
