Confirmed from Quarry Road Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Easy hiking trails following a waterway lead to quarry walls, waterfalls and old mines.
What runners say about Quarry Road Trail
“Lots of botanical sights and high veiws of the gorgeous river.”
“There are additional offshoots to the sides that are narrow, shaded, and steep for more experienced hikers and climbers.”
“Easy trail for beginners with little elevation gain.”
It's a great place to get a few miles in. The first couple of miles are easy, on a dirt road. We started into the second part which is a smaller trail that feels more secluded. The only down side is that the trail is high up from the water and a steep walk to get to it. But we managed.
Had a great 10 mile hike. Enjoyed the old mine and just relaxing by the river. Always a nice hike and there are plenty of services along 1st 2 miles
Did a 9 mile round trip hike on the Quarry Trail in Auburn with my wife yesterday. Really easy path to maneuver, with moderate shade and mild ups and downs. Lots of scenery and it follows the water. Although we only did 9 miles, (nursing a bad knee) you can go much further.
After erroneous directions from Google Maps, I found parking along Old Foresthill Rd. It's self-service $10 for the day. Clementine Trail takes you along the North Fork of the American River. The hike starts out pretty flat then gets steeper with some drops then back up to Lake Clementine, 4.4 mi out and back.
Trail conditions & character
“Bathrooms at the quarry and at the trailhead parking is OK it’s $10 to park or free to park down the hill on the side of Highway 49 but it fills up quickly on the weekends.”
“Just a nice way to get outside and see the river and quarry and waterfalls.”
“There are additional offshoots to the sides that are narrow, shaded, and steep for more experienced hikers and climbers.”
“Was able to walk 16 miles the last time I went and even with a puppy and a group of people, the hike was pleasant and not too challenging.”
“Quarry Road itself is a wide, flat, sunny trail following a neck of the American River and leading to some extravagant climbing areas.”
