Confirmed from Red Rock Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Red Rock Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (161 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“I love this set of trails; you can go for miles and miles if you want, or just a short distance for great views without worrying about the hike back!”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“Has good climbing for a wide range of skill levels, including lots of beginner-friendly climbs.”

We started at the red rock/red potato parking lot and went up to the top of potato hill. Amazing hike. Not overly strenuous until the last 200 feet up the hill. Super steep! The bottom 500 feet is in thick scrub oak, totally shaded. But the remaining 9/10 of the trail is open and sunny.

Great little hike. Partially shaded, variety of wild flowers, and view of the valley.

★★★★☆ — Sheri , Jun 2023

Red Rock trailhead is on East Mike Weir Drive. It's just a gravel lot. If you're looking for paved parking and toilets you can go to one of the upper lots... It's nice to start here because you have a fun intermediate climb up to some cross country style trail that will take you over to some other trails.

★★★★★ — Peter , Dec 2020

This trail was a perfect place to walk our dog this morning, with the cool temperatures and nice views. The parking lot is small but there were only a few cars parked there. There isn't a bathroom at this trailhead but there is a bathroom at another trailhead that this trail walks right by/connects to.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
