Lovely quiet hike with a lot of “bang for your buck” - a short walk with beautiful views of the lake, mountains, and trees. We stopped here to break up our drive from Anchorage to Talkeetna and it was well worth it!
Very nice lake and walk! Beautiful views. And very easy - it's flat, and takes 30 minutes to go around the loop if you're walking at a slow pace. There's also an observation deck for looking for animals, but we didn't see any animals.
This public use area is easily driven by, but it's a great stop! There is a one-mile trail that goes all around the lake with interpretive signs along the way, benches to rest, some picnic area, and a 30 foot wildlife viewing tower that overlooks the hay flats, where it is common to see birds and moose. The best part?
Wonderful little trail around the lake. Sadly it's become quite popular and you can no longer make the trip around without seeing someone else. The trail is easy and only about a mile long. So it's easy for kids. There is a viewing tower as well.
