Confirmed from Richmond Slave Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Richmond Slave Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (285 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“It was a beautiful low humidity late August day.”

🪧 well-marked 2 mentions

“The beginning and end were easy to follow, the middle was a bit difficult.”

It appeares to be more of a fishing area for locals on the surface. However, if you continue walking, they have posts throughout that help visitors with a glimpse of what happened in this area. The path is not the widest at all parts of the loop. However, i honestly thought that it puts you into history by doing so.

I had to come represent for my ancestors. Where is my 40acres and a mule/now I want a horse??? It's sad they had to run just to live, I'm so very sad😔 I can't believe this was life for African Americans. Thank you Harriet Tubman for your bravery🤗🇺🇸✊🏾 =FloridaGirl🍊

Incredibly important piece of history. Highly recommend this if you're in Richmond. The beginning and end were easy to follow, the middle was a bit difficult. The half on the river was a nice hike with insightful information.

Wonderful quiet trail. Very thought provoking and tranquil as you walk in the sorrowful footsteps created by slavery in the USA

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
